Use K Stack in your AI app

Connect the AI app you already use to K Stack. Ask about your projects in your own words, and make changes once you have checked them: post an update, log time, book a meeting, move a lead. It acts as you, sees only what you can see, and changes nothing until you say yes.

Every app connects to the same address

https://app.kstack.com.au/api/mcp

You need your K Stack account (the one you use for the portal) and an AI app plan that allows custom connectors.

Connect your app

Claude

  1. Open Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app) and go to Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector. Name it K Stack and paste the address above. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may need to add it for your organisation first.
  3. Choose Connect. A K Stack window opens: sign in as you normally do.
  4. Read what Claude will be able to do, then choose Allow. You're back in Claude, connected. It works on Claude's mobile apps too.
  5. In a chat, turn K Stack on from the tools menu, then ask away.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode (your plan and workspace settings decide whether you can).
  2. Choose Create (or Add connector). Name it K Stack, paste the address above, and choose OAuth for authentication.
  3. Create it, then choose Connect. A K Stack window opens: sign in as you normally do.
  4. Read what ChatGPT will be able to do, then choose Allow.
  5. In a chat, choose K Stack from the + menu (under Developer mode), then ask away.

Claude Code

In a terminal, add K Stack, then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose K Stack to sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http kstack https://app.kstack.com.au/api/mcp

Cursor

Add K Stack to Cursor, or put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Cursor opens the K Stack sign-in the first time.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kstack": {
      "url": "https://app.kstack.com.au/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Add K Stack to VS Code, or put this in .vscode/mcp.json. Copilot's agent mode then offers K Stack's tools.

{
  "servers": {
    "kstack": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.kstack.com.au/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Any other app

Any app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth) can connect: give it the address above.

What to ask

Name projects, tasks and people the way you see them in K Stack. You don't need ids.

Clients

  • Where is Patient portal up to, and what's due in the next two weeks?
  • Summarise this week's updates on our projects in five lines.
  • Which milestones are waiting on us?
  • Reply to the latest update on Patient portal: thanks, we'll review on Friday.
  • Approve Sam's leave next Monday.

K Stack people

  • What's open on Website refresh, and who owns each item?
  • What did the client decide in last week's meeting?
  • Log 2.5 hours on Patient portal for the enrolment screens.
  • Book a 30 minute check-in with the client tomorrow at 10.
  • Post an update on Patient portal: enrolment screens are finished and in testing.
  • Show HBR-52 to the client. Make HBR-53 internal.
  • What does the Project Guide say about marking? Is anything still open with the client?
  • Write the Enrolment section of the Guide as a flow from these notes, with the open points as questions. One card.

Leads and admins

  • Move the Launch milestone to 30 November.
  • Apply the outcomes from yesterday's meeting.
  • Send Patient portal for sign-off.
  • Place Sam Lee with Harbour Health as a developer from 1 November.

The sales team

  • Which leads are overdue for a follow-up?
  • Log a call with LD-1042: no answer, try again Thursday.
  • Move LD-1042 to Qualified.

Changes wait for your yes

When you ask for a change, the app first shows exactly what will happen: the update to be posted, the hours to log, who gets an invitation, the dates that move. Nothing changes until you confirm. It checks again when you do, so nothing stale goes through.

Everything it does shows in K Stack as done by you, in Activity and in any email it sends, just as if you had done it on the screen.

Ask K Stack in your portal (Beta)

Clients can also ask without connecting an app: open Ask K Stack on the right edge of the portal (or press ⌘K). It's in beta while we check it works well. Choose What can I ask? in the panel for this list.

Find out

  • Where is this project up to, and what's due in the next two weeks?
  • What is waiting on us?
  • What did we agree about this last week?
  • How does enrolment work, according to the Project Guide?
  • Summarise this week's updates in five lines.

Do, after you check a card

Nothing changes until you press the button on the card it shows you.

  • Reply to the latest update: thanks, we'll review on Friday.
  • Comment on the Launch milestone: can we see it on Thursday?
  • Suggest a change to the Guide: parents can also pay by invoice.

What it won't do

  • Anything to do with money: invoices, credits and payments.
  • Who can see or do what on a project.
  • Files. It can't open, share or upload them: they stay in the portal.

What it won't do

Some things stay with a person, on the screen, on purpose:

  • Anything to do with money: credits, cashback, invoices, retainers, rates and bank details.
  • Who can see or do what: people on a project, project tabs, roles, removing someone.
  • Emails on their own: invites, resends and reminder runs. (A change that emails people, like booking a meeting, says so on its card.)
  • Notification channels and secrets.
  • Files, either way: for clients it can't open, share or upload them. They go in and out through the portal.

Your information

  • It sees only what you can see in K Stack, and does only what you can do. Clients never see K Stack's internal work, or another client's. An admin keeps admin rights, checked again on every request.
  • The app reads what it fetches from K Stack to answer you. How it keeps your conversations depends on the app and your plan's settings.
  • Files are never shared or uploaded through AI, in your portal or in a connected app. Asked for one, it says: “Sorry, files can't be accessed via the AI connector for security reasons.” Files go in and out through the portal itself.
  • Nothing you share with K Stack is used to train AI models. See our privacy policy.
  • If your organisation has asked K Stack to keep its work out of AI tools, apps can't be connected at all, and Ask K Stack isn't in your portal.
  • Connections last until you end them. Disconnect any time in the AI app, or in K Stack: on your profile under Connected apps (clients), or API access (K Stack staff).

If something goes wrong

It says the sign-in has expired
Disconnect K Stack in your AI app and connect it again. If you disconnected it in K Stack, connect again from the app.
It says connecting is switched off
K Stack has paused AI app connections. Ask your K Stack contact.
It says your work is kept out of AI tools
Your organisation asked K Stack to keep its work out of AI tools, so apps can't be connected. Your K Stack contact can tell you more.
It can't find a project
It sees only the projects you can open in K Stack. Name the project as it appears there, or ask it to list your projects.
It says it can't make a change
It can do only what you can do on the screens. The card says why: your role, the project's tabs, or something that needs a person (see What it won't do).

For developers

The same changes are an HTTP API: check with the input, then send it again with confirm. The API reference lists every action with its input and examples, generated from the live catalogue (OpenAPI at /api/actions/openapi.json).

K Stack staff can make a personal access token on their profile under API access, for scripts and tools that don't sign in themselves. Give it only the permissions it needs: read projects and meetings, make changes (actions), tasks, or time.
